Landscape of Love

GenONE has adopted a couple of women's shelters in downtown FW that are home to women coming out of prison or have fallen on hard times and literaly have no where to live. One home has women only and the other has women with their children. A group of students took a few hours on a Saturday to landscape both homes making them more inviting and cozy. The women were very appreciative and excited about their temporary home being dressed up a little. We were blessed along with the women by being able to value them and love them. We are exploring other small projects to do in the future...swing set, sand box, etc.

Children of Hope

After nine months of preparation, we are finally ready to take off this Saturday, June 6th, for ten days at a Mexican orphanage. We have spent hours of practicing dramas, spanish songs, crafts, memorizing scripture, team building, culture preparation and PRAYER. Our goal has been to grow close as a team, humble ourselves and allow God to show us his will and priorities. Surrendering "our" rights, will and desires are never easy but it's necessary to allow the Holy Spirit to speak to us and lead us. Our time in Mexico will be spent playing and building relationships with the orphans, doing work around the orphanage, speaking in churches, leading vacation bible schools and sharing Christ's love. Please pray for travel safety, health, servant's heart and uplifting attitudes. But most importantly pray we can share Christ with the locals and orphans and their hearts will be open.

Pool Party Plus

Special thanks to the Shalabarger (Olivia Zehr's house) family for openning up their beautiful home and pool to GenONE. Approx 50 students played volleyball, football, corn hole and swam in the 90 degree pool. The weather turned out great but the cool temps made the pool even warmer and hard to get out. We will definetely plan another pool party there next summer. Click HERE for video

Freshman Putt Putt and Go Cart

Well we did it again.....we welcomed in a new fresh batch of high school students. We have a great group of freshmen joining the ranks of GenONE. We started the afternoon off with pizza and then headed over to Speedway Go Cart and Putt Putt for some fun competition on the race track and mini golf course. Looks like we have a lot of high schools represented in this year's freshmen.....Snider, Carroll, Blackhawk, Leo, Northrop, Lakewood, homeschool, etc. Click Pictures for more pictures or Video for video.

CDYC 2009 Report

You would think after several years of going to CDYC we would run out of surprises.....not so! This week held some incredible life long memories. Some relate to life change and growing closer to the Lord and others will be added to the list of CDYC's most memorable moments (along with Chandler eating a dragon fly, Andy's tattoo reveal, grocery cart crashing, etc.). This year held two first-time CYDC moments.....being at CDYC for about 15 minutes the fire department showing up with lights/siren blaring when one of our students turned on a fog machine in the dorm triggering the smoke alarms. We are not sure why he brought a fog machine in the first place. Saturday night Andy and a few students ran Kyle to the ER to get ten stitches in his head from a wallyball accident involving his head and Ryan's knee. Kyle should heal up fine but will be sporting a nice scar on his forehead for a few years. The speaker, Todd Nighswonger, did a great job challenging us this week to surrender more and more of our heart/life to the Lord. The sports competitions were fun even though we didn't win any awards in basketball, volleyball or soccer. Jake was crowned ping pong champion this year. Andy retired his belt as the CDYC arm wrestling champion to make room for the next generation. Pastor Ron and his family spent the afternoon and evening with us one night and took Andy and Amy through renewing their vows to celebrate their 20 yr anniversary. Most of the group had an opportunity to go out into the Marion community and pick up trash and bottles for the "live to serve" project. Soooo....after a week of good laughs and good cries, we would def say that CDYC 2009 was a success and well worth it. Even though there is no money back guarentee, we would be surprised if all our 46 students weren't changed from the "inside out" in some way. Bingo at Byron Health Center

One of the local missions activities that our students have grown to love is going to Byron Health Center and playing bingo with the mentally challenged residence. This past school year our group went 3-4 times to simply hang out and love on the residence. Their faces light up when they get a bingo and win a prize. Some of the residence enjoy receiving a hug, some want us to pray with them, some talk non stop and others are a little grouchy. This variety makes it an adventursome and keeps us coming back. Plus, it stretches us outside our comfort zone. Allowing the love of Christ to flow through you is rarely easy.....but oh so rewarding!

Girls Night Pajama Party!

What do a bunch of girls do when they don't want annoying boys around? They hang out together in their PJ's, talk, laugh, paint nails and watch a chick flick. The GenONE girls and their friends hung out on a Friday night and had a great time together. Thank you girls for making this a fun night. We will definately plan another one soon.

Winter Retreat 2009

Wow...what a great weekend! 60 students and 11 staff headed to the great white north (well...sort of white). We didn't let the limited snow hold us back from having fun and maximizing the weekend. New friendships were formed, new spiritual commitments were made and the new year was kicked off to a great start. Plus, other than a fire extinguisher "accidently" discharging, we did not do any damage. We brought back Michael Fernihue and Peter and the band to challenge us and help us engage with the Lord Almighty. We have some passionate volunteers that sacrificed their weekend to encourage and love on the students.

Hacky Sack Hangout

For two hours on a Friday night we took over the youth room for hacky sack and corn hole. As if that wasn't enough, we had a group of gentlemen treat us to some incredible jamming with their guitars and drums. Thanks to the 25 students who invited their friends out for this fun evening.

Rake @ Henry's

Thank you to the 25+ students that blessed Henry Galliher's family by blitzing their leafy yard with rakes and what-not. We united and conquered the seasonal botanical task. It only took us one hour to rid the lawn of the fallen objects. The Galliher's were very very appreciative. More pictures at the link above.

Cedar Point 2008

45 GenONE students loaded the bus bound for Cedar Point. Forcast was sunny and 75 in Sandusky. The place was busy but everyone was able to ride what they wanted. Upon exiting the bus, most everyone headed to the Maverick to try and beat the rush of people. There are not too many things in life that are worth waiting for an hour but the Maverick is one of them. Bink got to ride the Dragster for the very first time and screamed like a little girl the entire 15 seconds. We were finally able to find Maizie a salad to eat after searching for an hour and Brandon got welts on his head by quarters flying out of someone's pocket on the Raptor.....all part of the experience of Cedar Point!

Speedway Putt Putt and Go Cart

50+ students kicked off the 2008 summer by having a great time at the Speedway Putt Putt and Go Cart joint. Ben Cain danced his little heart out on the DDR, Brooke Frauhiger wreaked havoc on the go cart track and James Holton (aka Tiger Holton) had trouble keeping his ball on his own golf green. Great to have the new freshman. They are a fun lively bunch. I regret to inform you that no one won the $5 challenge by making Andy spin out on the race track. boooohhahahahhah

Byron Bingo

Nothing is more rewarding than hanging out with the mentally challenged residents of Byron Health. They love it when we come and play bingo with them. Some of the residence are learning the names of the students who have come back to serve a few times and are sad when we leave. Each resident has a story and all are in need of love. We are able to brighten their lives for a couple hours by getting to know them, praying with them and having fun. Each of us have been blessed by serving at Byron.

Love Church Service Project

Thank you to the handful of students who sacrificed sleep to head downtown and do landscaping at Love Church. After perking up from a Starbucks coffee, we worked for a few hours pulling weeds, planting shrubs and spreading mulch. We then filled our bellies with Pizza Hut buffet. We had fun brightning up the inner city of FW and helping Love Church touch the community.

There are not too many things that we would drive 24 hours over Memorial Day Weekend in a cramped van enduring ticks, sunburn, sleep deprivation and no shower to experience. However, an opportunity to join thousands of other teens in the middle of the country (Kansas) for the sole purpose of bringing praise, glory and honor to our Lord Jesus Christ is one huge reason we can think of. 20 of us loaded into 3 vans and headed to the center most point of the country for a one day hard core encounter with our Lord. Satan was working overtime to discourage us from going. We had two vans break down before even leaving Allen County.

Life is full of distractions and things to make us busy. Finding extended times of solitude and worship are rare. Let's just say our minds were transformed and our hearts grew closer to the Lord throughout our trip to Paradise08. There were no big name bands, no national speakers, no tshirts for sale, no hot dogs being sold....just a huge field and woods with thousands of teens coming into the "throne room" and giving the King of Kings the attention and honor He deserves.

Winter Retreat Recap

What an incredible weekend of bonding, fun and spiritual re-fueling. We couldn't be happier with the way our diverse group of students all got along and enjoyed hanging out with each other. Our group consisted of 47 students and 7 leaders. We had the entire retreat center to ourselves. Wii, karaoke, pool and hanging out helped fill our downtime between group sessions and evenings. Our speaker, Michael, did a great job of reminding us how big and great our God is and the plan He has for each of us. Michael's worship band brought energy and fun interaction while helping us engage in praise and worship to our Lord. No one got injuried while we barrelled down the slopes of Echo Valley on inner tubes and tobaggons. The 10 degree temp didn't stop a group of our guys from stripping down to only their shorts and boots and making a trip down the hill. We are excited about planning our next GenONE retreat. Womens' Shelter Donations

Thank you soooo much to those students who donated money and items for the abused women that live at the Fort Wayne Womens' Shelter. They are blessed by your generosity and God will bless you for your giving. We collected flashlights, duffle bags, pillows and gift cards.

Henry Visit

We stopped to visit Henry at the Lutheran Rehab Hospital over Thanksgiving Break. He continues to make recoveries and is building up strength. We played tennis with a balloon and hung out. Please continue to pray for Henry and his healing. He loves getting visitors so feel free to visit him. He is in room 113. PTL for Henry!

Local Missions

The month of November provided 50+ students an opportunity for several local outreach events. A group of students went to Byron Health to play bingo with the mentally challenged residents. It was so much fun loving on the residents and seeing their face light up when they got a "bingo". A group of students raked four yards for people in the community with special needs and a group went downtown to the Associated Churches Food Bank to box canned food for needy families. We had a great time serving in our community and look forward to doing some more in the near future. That's what it's all about!

Girls Night Out

Toby Mac, Thousand Foot Krutch, Barlow Girl Concert

"Slam...here comes the slam!" is what the crowd was yelling when Toby Mac cranked it up at last Thursday night's concert. TFK only played for about 25 minutes but they were awesome. The GenONE guys fell in love with the Barlow Girls. There is something to say about a hot blonde wailing on the drums. The concert also kicked off the grand opening of the new Remedy.fm station. Guys Dodgeball Night!

The Guys' Dodgeball Night was awesome! 100 guys from different schools gathered at Blackhawk's gym for a night of pure adrenaline pumpin dodgeball. We are not talking about the new soft foamy kind of balls either. We are talking about the old school rubber kind. The kind that leaves a mark if you take one upside the head. It's all in good fun of course! That is unless you happen to be one of the unlucky souls that gets Andy "out".....then you must pay with your life!!! buuhahahah

Freshman Rock!

20 Freshman showed up for the Speedway Go-Carts and Putt Putt night. We had a great time hanging out together and meeting some new students. James Holton won $1 for spinning out Andy on the track. Good Times! Hawk Nelson / Wizards Game

Our first GenONE event was a success with 47 high schoolers loading up and heading out to the Hawk Nelson Concert and Wizards Game. The breezy partly sunny 75 degree weather was perfect for moshing at the concert. Hawk Nelson put on a great show and everyone seemed to have a good time jumping around. Oh, yeh, the game was fun too even though the Wizards lost...again. It was cool to see some new students come along. Thank you to those parents that drove! We couldn't have done it without you.
